Classic Granny Squares

We all love a granny square moment. The beauty of them is not only the unlimited patterns you can choose from (both free and paid) but also how many amazing projects you can make by connecting them! So here are some festive crochet projects using just granny squares that can also make an amazing, practical gift for your loved ones! Here are some of my favorite Christmas themed granny squares done by Raffamusa Designs.

1. Mug Cozies! One of my favorite projects to make for winter, they are so customizable by using granny squares and you can create some beautiful, memorable gifts! Here are some free patterns with video tutorial so you can get some inspiration. But remember, you can choose any granny square pattern and visual!

2. Mug coasters and table coasters. I bet you didn’t see this one coming! You can simply choose your favorite granny square patterns and yarn them together for the table coaster – or choose a hexagonal pattern and create a lovely effect!

3. Mini granny square blankets- or a full sized blanket! Working in granny squares takes away some of that storage hassle, you can keep crocheting anywhere, pretty much, and then put it all together for that beautiful festive blanket! You can also ditch the hooks completely and finger crochet a fluffy, easy and less time consuming blanket!

I’d recommend creating a few festive inspired designs (like some snowmen, candy canes, snowflakes etc.) and use them as the central piece of the blanket- or as a border and the rest keep solid granny squares of different colors!

4. How can you not add a festive granny squares scarf to the list? It’s a must for the cold season and such a cute clothing item to own and use! You can also do this by simply creating a chain the width of your choice and continue using back loop only double crochet. This will make the fabric starchier.
5. Christmas tree ornaments! If you are more advanced in your crochet journey and can handle more detailed, smaller work, Christmas tree ornaments are the perfect opportunity to experiment.

Diamond paintings

When it comes to diamond painting, you can choose in either buying already done designs, using your desired picture with professional services or – DIY! I will share some projects that are a must try on your next journey.

1. Diamond painting Christmas cards! I’ve been introduced to them by my very good friend a few years ago and we never stopped using them. We’ve been using cards that you can send through post and the amount of personalization you can do makes me delighted for Christmas.
2. Mini diamond paintings as keychains. Pretty easy and quick to do when taking a break on the road. They are absolutely adorable for any season and occasion and they look so cute on your car key 🤩.
3. Small diamond painting to display – Small and miniature diamond paintings are the only types I bring with me on my road trips and camping vacation besides crochet. They bring the same joy as the 30×40 cm ones but way less time. And they don’t require a lot of storage which makes them perfect!
4. Diamond painting Christmas scenery – I have not tried yet a 5d diamond painting but they look so fun and such a nice, heartfelt gift to give someone who loves Christmas decorations.
5. Diamond painting acrylic stands – 10/10. I do recommend adding a strip of led lights at the bottom to light them up and use as decoration!
